Respect the Ants

A learning from Skan summer camp.

Summer camp included
A teamwork exercise
Building shelters in the woods
Stuck with my brother, he sighs

Later as I sat
And reflected on the day
With elder Black Snake Woman
It seemed I had a lot to say

It’s so hard, I said
To respect my brother
When he’s not respecting me
We struggle to work with each other

I kicked an ant hill
With a frustrated foot
She listened with compassion
But gave me a stern look

She said if you can
Respect the smallest ants
And the tallest pine trees
Then you’ll know a respectful stance
