Why Mindfulness

Today I sit, be still and ask
Why mindfulness?
It’s time for me, to better myself
Yes I must confess

From rise to rest others’ needs
Fill most my lungs
Right for community and child
For me balance step one

Also for those around me
Less need to be controlling
Fewer snaps, more present
More listening and consoling

But the questions often return
Is it energy wasted or pearled?
Am I more effective making change?
Is it good for the world?

Better to sign a petition?
Or go to another protest?
Plant another tree?
Wait, I can do all that in mindfulness!

Today I’ll take my time to sit
Until worry is inert
Be present as I go protest
Plant trees, feel the dirt
